Quantity vs. Filled Quantity
Overview
Orders can be placed in either Base Currency or Quote Currency. Filled quantity is the actual executed quantity, which may differ slightly from the initial calculation due to price movements. User Intent determines whether a trade results in spending less money or receiving more coins when prices improve.
Order Side:
- Buy Orders: You spend quote currency (fiat) to acquire base currency (crypto).
- Sell Orders: You sell base currency to receive quote currency.
User Intent:
- Quote: You specify how much quote currency you want to spend or receive.
- Base: You specify how much base currency you want to buy or sell.
Intent is Base Currency
You specify exactly how many coins you want. For example, "When BTC reaches $120,000, buy exactly 0.001 BTC." If the price improves, you spend less USD.
Example:
- Order: Limit Buy 0.001 BTC at $120,000.
- Estimated Cost: $120.00.
- Execution: Price improves to $112,175.74.
- Result: You still receive 0.001 BTC, but you only spend $112.17.
This may look like an "underfill" in dollar terms, but the user intent (0.001 BTC) is met exactly.
Intent is Quote Currency
You specify exactly how much money you want to spend. For example, "When BTC reaches $120,000, buy $120 worth of BTC." If the price improves, you receive more BTC.
Example:
- Order: Limit Buy $120 USD at $120,000.
- Estimated Qty: 0.001 BTC.
- Execution: Price improves to $112,175.74.
- Result: You spend your full $120 USD, but you receive 0.00106975 BTC.
This may look like an "overfill" in coin terms, but the user intent ($120 spend) is met exactly.
